Traffic. 8:30 TRAFFIC: HRBT backed up several miles to Granby Street
8:30 AM EDT, July 2, 2009 At the , eastbound traffic to on Interstate 64 is backed up four miles to Hampton River Bridge. A road maintenance crew is blocking westbound traffic to Hampton, causing a backup to Granby Street. At the Downtown Tunnel, westbound traffic to Portsmouth on I-264 is backed up one mile to City Hall Avenue. Eastbound traffic is backed up a half-mile to Effingham Street.
At the Midtown Tunnel, eastbound traffic to Norfolk is backed up one mile to the Route 164 Western Freeway. On Interstate 264, the exits for Waterside Drive in Norfolk will close at 10 a.m. and remain shut down until midnight Sunday to accommodate Harborfest. At the , an overturned tractor-trailer has shut down the southbound lanes of the middle span.
The northbound lanes are currently being used in alternating directions, causing delays for motorists traveling to and from the Eastern Shore.
